BIRTH OF A NEW SANCTIONING BODY

All Harley Drag Racing New Sanctioning Body To Start Season

.................... Buford Edwards, formally associated with the American Motorcycle Racing Association (AMRA), who has successfully promoted Motorcycle Drag Racing events throughout the Southeast through AMRA Region-2, inc., announces that he has severed his ties with AMRA to form a new sanctioning body — American Drag Bike Association, Inc. (ADBA) for the 1997 season.

The new ADBA will have guaranteed purses and a National Points System in place for 1997 with a Guaranteed Points Fund of over $10,000 dollars. All ADBA National Records are open for 1997 and all 1996 Region-2 champions will retain their ranking and plate usage in ADBA for ’97. Already underway is the establishment of ADBA Membership, Rule Book and periodic newsletter as well as soliciting prospective Event and Class sponsors.

Many familiar faces will be part of ADBA Event Staff; Johnny Vickers of Hawaya Racing will assist as fuel and Tech advisor for the new ADBA. His function is to help interpret the rules to ADBA members and advise on ADBA safety. Johnny is presently helping to design the new Rule Book so please contact him with your input. John Jackson will assist as one of our Gas Class Advisors. Other Class Advisors will be announced in the future.

Our goal is to blend the rules to encompass the majority of the existing bikes and to allow progress and development of the Classes. We will design the rules to include most existing machine this year and adjust from there. Now is the time to include your input into our decisions. If possible, please put your suggestions in writing for review and consideration.

Other staff will include Joe Lehman (Official Starter), Mark Morgan (Tech & Fuel Check), Rick Dunning (Staging Lanes), Pam Edwards & Dee Holcomb (Membership & Tech Fees).

Performance Productions, Inc. of Jonesboro, Georgia will assist in promoting ADBA Events and functions. John Holcomb, President of Performance Promotions, Inc. will also serve as ADBA Event Coordinator. Big John will help enforce the Rule Book and safety of the ADBA. For Event or Sponsor information contact John at (770) 603-9501.

We are now accepting Rule Book advertisements, Class & Points Series Sponsorships and Memberships in ADBA. For more information, or to obtain a Rate Card, call ADBA at (615) 789-3202 or Fax (615) 789-9315. Time is of the essence to meet our Rule Book publishing deadline. Advertising space is limited and on a first come-first served so contact us as soon as possible to reserve your space.

ADBA offers three types of Membership: Rider Membership, Crew Membership and Non-Rider Membership. Rider Membership $100: Includes; ADBA Membership Card, (2) Number Plates Permanent Number, Rule Book & Jacket Patch, Special Mailing plus free rider admission to any ADBA Event if entered for competition.

Crew Membership $60: Includes; ADBA Membership Card, Rule Book, Jacket Patch & Sticker, Special mailing, plus free admission if bike is entered for competition.

Non-Rider Membership $25: Includes; ADBA Membership Card, Rule Book, Jacket Patch, Sticker and Special Mailings.

You can join now by calling ADBA. Membership Forms will also be available at Tech and in the Drag Times Newspaper starting with Issue #1, 1997. Also, as an incentive to help boost its subscription base within ADBA, Drag Times will contribute $5.00 to the 1997 ADBA National Points Fund for each subscription purchased at the track on our ADBA Membership Form. Now five bucks doesn’t sound like a lot but realistically the Drag Times’ contribution does not include subscriptions sold through ADBA via mail or phone so we urge as many of you as possible to sign up for a Drag Times subscription when purchasing your ADBA Membership at the track.

The new ADBA and Staff pledges to represent the sport of Harley-Davidson Drag Racing in a professional manner to our industry and is dedicated to the overall growth of our sport. We look forward to seeing everyone at our ADBA season opener April 5-6 in Hallsville, Texas.
