You might see her anywhere, Daytona Bike Week, Sturgis, The Harley Drags or
any ABATE function. That lady with the jacket covered with pins, more than
twenty pounds of pins. Yes, and Flaming Red hair and Blue Eyes too. That's how
you might remember her, but what is she doing here? Here is her story, in her
own words, our friend Suzanne Church.
"After the tragedy of my parents divorce and the rejection of my
father, I began dabbling in the occult. At thirteen I was having seances and
playing with a ouija board, Rebellion blossomed when I read a magazine article
on the "love children" (hippies) and the LSD movement. I immediately
sought out the culture that seemed to be the answer for my life. I ran way from
home and lived in "crash pads: small one-room apartments shared by
sometimes as many thirty people. I had to wear disguises to keep from being
recognized because my family, concerned about my safety had the police looking
for me. I was arrested, taken to juvenile home, then released, having convinced
everyone I would stay home, yet the first opportunity, I would leave again. The
third time I was arrested, depressed about the possibility of spending three
years in juvenile home, I tried suicide. At fifteen I was sent to a mental
hospital. I became pregnant while on furlough, Then I married the father. My
husband worked hard but I wanted excitement. Angry at him one night, I left him
and my five month old daughter and hitchhiked downtown. The Lord sent a
Christian couple to intercept me. They picked me up, took me to Atlanta,
witnessed to me, and prayed for me, but Satan had a plan, too.
That
night I stayed with a friend, took some LSD, and read the satanic bible. I
decided never to return to my husband or daughter. Living and partying on the
street was all I knew. I was kidnapped when I was seventeen years old by a
member of a motorcycle club. I became their property and remained with them off
and on for ten years. Dancing in clubs and using PCP, other drugs and alcohol, I
began to hear voices. I frequented grave yards. In November 1978, as I tried to
board a plane without a ticket, I was arrested on a prior drug sale warrant. For
three days I heard those voices in the jail. I began to read the Bible, the Holy
Bible, this time, and the Voices stopped. After four and a half months in a
halfway house with five years probation, I got an apartment and had to sneak to
see my old friends for fear of another arrest. Following a weekend of drug abuse
I kept a promise to my sister's best friend and visited her church. On October
29,1979, God changed my life. I accepted Jesus Christ and He delivered me from
drug addiction and alcoholism instantly, I have never been the same.
Now
many years later, go has opened the door for my new husband Al and me to
minister to bikers. I minister by singing and giving my testimony in prisons,
jails, homeless shelters, truck stops or at biker rallies to many who might
never hear of God's love and power of forgiveness. I hope to encourage
Christians to never give up on a lost loved one. My family prayed for me for
years, I was a hopeless case, yet many times their prayers saved my life,
literally, many times.
See, I have partied with the hardest most
notorious bikers, yet I still wanted more excitement, nothing satisfied! I have
been there, done that and lost the T-shirt. I did so much partying that people
who knew me expected to hear that I had been found dead in an alley somewhere.
See I thought I had no choice. I thought I was too bad to go to Heaven, but I
was wrong. I could choose to go to heaven. So I did.
Now my husband,
Al and I want to make this choice available to all bikers. Because we're on a
mission. More bikers in heaven is our mission. See we want to do our part in
changing history and filling heaven with bikers. Through the efforts and support
of many Christian bikers and their churches, 2,500 Biker Bibles have been given
away since Daytona '95.
Inspired by many friends such as JB Walker
and David Allan Coe, my album titled, "Bridging the Gap", featuring
Evidence Of Grace, will be released this fall. The project started when I met JB
Walker and wrote a poem for him. The album will include eight songs, five
originals cuts. Cheap Whiskey Blues is expected to be a favorite with it's
country sound. "Right Path Baby' will get the rhythm and blues folks
tapping their feet. "Tomorrow" will make you stop and think. There's a
variety of music styles on the tape, something for everyone. You can also look
for "No Pot of Gold", the life story of Suzanne written in novel
style. The book is in the last phase of editing before approaching a publisher.
We hope to have it published this year.
Al and Suzanne minister with "His
Laboring Few Biker Ministry of Jesus Christ" at most of the rallies. They
set up the blue and white tent with the "Jesus loves bikers too"
banner. They have services, singing, free Bibles and free food for anyone who
needs or wants it for the duration of the different rallies. So remember, the
next time you see that Redheaded Lady with the big smile wearing a heavy jacket,
she has a story to tell.
